Week 2: Introductory Myology Flashcards
What are the groups of muscles that are in the shoulder region?
axio/scapulo/claviculo-humeral muscles (attach to humerus), axioscapular muscles and rotator cuff muscles
What are the attachments of pectoralis major?
sternal head= sternum to intertubercular groove of humerus
clavicular head= clavicle to humerus
What are the actions of pectoralis major?
adduction, medial rotation and flexion
What are the attachments of latissimus dorsi?
T7-S5, ribs 9-12, inferior angle scapula to intertubercular groove of humerus
What are the actions of latissimus dorsi?
adduction, medial rotation and extension
What are the three parts of the deltoid?
posterior, middle and anterior
What are the attachments of the deltoid?
scapula spine, acromion, clavicle to deltoid tuberosity on humerus
What are the action of the deltoid?
superior= extension, abduction, external rotation middle= abduction anterior= flexion, abduction
What are the attachments of teres major?
scapula to intertubercular groove on humerus
What are the attachments of the coracobrachialis?
coracoid process to mid shaft of humerus
What are the actions of the coracobrachialis?
adduction and flexion
What are the attachments of biceps brachii?
long head= supraglenoid tubercle to radial tuberosity
short head= coracoid process to radial tuberosity
What are the actions of biceps brachii?
flexion of glenohumeral joint, elbow flexion and forearm supination
What are the attachments of triceps brachii?
long head= scapula-infraglenoid tubercle to olecranon process of elbow
lateral head= superior of radial groove to olecranon
medial head= inferior to radial groove to olecranon
What are the actions of triceps brachii?
extension of shoulder and elbow
