Week 4: Bones, Joints and Muscles of the Elbow Flashcards
What are the elbow and radioulnar joints?
elbow complex, proximal radioulnar joint, intermediate radioulnar joint (interosseous membrane) and distal radioulnar joint
What is the classification of the elbow joint?
synovial, uniaxial, hinge
What are the articular surfaces of the elbow joint?
distal humerus, proximal radius and proximal ulna
What are the ligaments in the elbow joints?
ulnar collateral ligament (capsular), radial collateral ligament
What is the classification of the superior radioulnar joint?
synovial, uniaxial, pivot
What are the articular surfaces of the superior radioulnar joint?
radial head, radial notch of ulna and annular ligament
What movement occurs at the superior radioulnar joint?
pronation/supination (radius rotates over ulna)
What is the classification of the interosseous membrane?
fibrous, syndesmosis
What are the functions of the interosseous membrane?
holds radius and ulna together, muscle attachment, passage for blood vessels, transmits forces from radius to ulna
What is the classification of the inferior radioulnar joint?
synovial, uniaxial, pivot
What movement occurs at the inferior radioulnar joint?
supination/pronation
What are he articular surfaces of the inferior radioulnar joint?
head of ulna, ulna notch of radius, intra-articular disc
What are the three main elbow flexors?
biceps brachii, brachioradialis and brachialis
What are the attachments of the brachialis?
mid-shaft of humerus to ulna tuberosity
What are the attachments of the brachioradialis?
lateral supracondylar ridge to radial styloid
