Week 5 Flashcards
Structures of the brain that the Vertebral arteries supply
Arise from subclavian arteries. Continues along the ventrolateral surface of the medulla
Structures of the brain that the Basilar artery supply
Midline of the pons
Structures of the brain that the Middle cerebral artery supply
Entire lateral surface of cerebral hemisphere, primary motor cortex, Broca’s area
Structures of the brain that the Anterior cerebral artery supply
Front & medial cortical surfaces of frontal and parietal lobe
Structures of the brain that the posterior cerebral artery supply
Anterior & inferior temporal lobe & medial occipital lobe
Define stroke and the 3 different types
An insult to the CNS on a primary vascular basis. Transient ischemic stroke, haemorrhagic & Ischemic
Define Ischemic stroke
Blood supply is interrupted and brain tissue is subsequently deprived of oxygen
Define Haemorrhagic stroke
Release of blood flow into the brain & spaces within cranium causing pressure on brain tissue
Define transient ischemic stroke
Temporary/brief local cerebral event which does not lead to permanent damage due to temporary blockage in brain vessel
