History of RNABC

A

1) 1909: the Graduate Nurses Association of Vancouver (RNAV)
(later became the graduate nurses association of BC (GNABC)
2) 1918: the nurses (registered) ACT was established
3) 1935: GNABC became the registered nurses association of BC (RNABC)
- the earliest association: the time first saw nursing is the profession that is established in law through the registered nursing (법적으로 확립된)

NNPBC Structure and composition

A

member-based association that represents all nursing designations

NNPBC Board is comprised of 13 individual representative of each nursing designation (councils)

councils meet regularly and the role of meeting
- to discuss issues
- develop strategies for advancing their own designation as well as nursing as a whole
- be spokesgroup for any advocacy issues
- communicate w/ other councils aoround shared issues
- have a strong and vital voice on the NNPBC board

History of NNPBC

A
  • 1981: RNABC dissolved labour relations function, and BCNU was formed
  • 1996: The Health Professions Act is created in BC
  • 2005: the Health Professions Act was changed, giving rise to the College of Registered Nurses of BC (CRNBC)
  • 2009: CRNBC withdraws from the Canadian Nurses Association
    This left policy-making and advisory functions of the profession in limbo

  • 2010: The Association of Registered Nurses of BC was established (ARNBC)
  • 2018: NNPBC is established, becoming Canada’s first amalgamated professional association (캐나다의 최초 통합 전문 협회) for all nursing designations
  • 2020: CRNBC becomes BC College of Nurses and Practical Nurses (BCCNP) (Takes on LPNs)
  • 2020: BCCNP becomes BC College of Nurses and Midwives (BCCNM) (Takes on Midwives)
