what is the privatization of risk?
No longer looking to train people to behave this way, looking for employees that are already “skilled” - as needed workforce
What are the 4 methods to select the ‘right’ workers?
vetting creative talents to find out aesthetic
hiring customers off the floor
offering discounts instead of higher wages
prolonging interviews and manipulating interviews to sort out “lower class” people
What are the social consequences to aesthetic labour?
consumer pleasure - worker/consumer as one. want to consume more to gain prestige
job segregation - employees blame themselves
consumer fetishism - objects of the brand are seen as meaningful/valuuable
What is the danger imperative?
Seeing a job as dangerous reproduces dangerous behaviour, even if the danger is not there
How does danger influence police work?
seen as something to bond over; integrated into norms of being an officer; accountability is blurred
