Q

what are the different categories of the peripheral nervous system?

A

somatic and automic
- autonomic: controls involuntary responses/basic life processes
- somatic: sensory info to and from CNS, semi intentioanl
autonomic
1. sympathetic 2. parasympathetic
- sympathtic: ready for action, response to threat/fight or flight
- parasympathetic: calms the person down, rest

Q

what is “fire action” of a neuron?

A

When stimulus or electrical signal is sent from one neuron to another which causes a big enough change between the charges between the membrane fluid and extracellular fluid. Na+ ions flood the membrane from pening of channels which further DEPOLARISE the membrane

Q

what are the different types of neurons? there are 3!

A

afferant or sensory neurons: collects sensory stimuli from body cells (organs, skin) and sends it to CNS
efferent or motor neurons: sends electrical signals from the brain to muscles/glands in the body (do something about that spider)
interneurons or association neurons: live in CNS and sends impulses between motor and sensory neurons

Q

what are the components that make up a neuron? and what are their functions?

A

dendrites: pick up signals/messages from other neurons and convery info to its own body
axon: sends electrical signals to other surrounding neurons
