What are ligaments?
A non contractile, tough fibrous tissue which are tightly packed bundles of collagen which are arranged parallel along a longitudunal axis
What are the two types of lig injuries?
Sprains, tears and ruptures
What is the definition of a grade 1 ligament injury?
fibres stretched
What is the definition of a grade 2 ligament injury?
Fibres partially torn
What is the definition of a grade 3 ligament injury?
Fibres torn
What is the swelling/tenderness/ROM deficit of a grade 1 lig injury?
Mild
What is the swelling/tenderness/ROM deficit of a grade 2 lig injury?
Moderate
What is the swelling/tenderness/ROM deficit of a grade 3 lig injury?
Severe
What is the ambulation of a Grade 1 lig injury?
full WB
What is the ambulation of a grade 2 lig injury?
full WB but may need assistive devices
What is the ambultion of a grade 3 lig injury?
Limited to no ability to walk without assistive devices
what is the typical healing time of a grade 1 lig injury?
1-2 weeks
What is the typical healing time of a grade 2 lig injury?
4-8 weeks
What is the typical healing time of a grade 3 lig injury?
12-16 weeks
