A

-Reach large number of people at less cost then face to face services

  • From simple motivational messages to more extensive educational campaigns

Pros:
- not enough on their own
- generally 70% of surveyed people able to recall media messages promoting PA

Cons:
-Cost, just for people to ignore
-Negitive perceptions

Community wide campaign info, pros/cons

A

Take mass media and “tailor” it to reach a targeted audience
-Same principles apply

Effectiveness:
- Better, because of tailoring
Limitations:
- Relevant only to a specific population
- May not translate to other types of PA

limitations:
-cost, needs expertise

Exercisers should:

* Be specific in support they are requesting

Effectiveness:
* Yes, but often multiple strategies used. May depend on population

Limitations: contingent on cooperation of group members

Objective
* Change the physical and organization structures that facilitate or impede physical activity in an entire population

Examples:
* Transportation
* Modify school-based PE
* Access to facilities

Effectiveness:
* Yes – long-lasting effect, addresses policy-level barriers to PA engagement

Limitations:
- challenging, costly, time consuming
