Week 3 Monday Class Flashcards
____ men experience angina as the first symptom of CAD and heart attack or sudden death
1/3
___ of all women experience angina and remain asymptomatic or present with atypical symptoms
1/2
For example, symptoms of CAD may not appear until the lumen of the coronary artery narrows by ___
75%
What are some cardiac causes
MI, Pericarditis, endocarditis, MVP, and AAA
What can cardiac causes be accompanied by
N/V, diaphoresis, SOB, fatigue, pallor or syncope
Most common warning signs of heart attack
- uncomfortable pressure, fullness, squeezing or pain in the center of the chest
- pain that spread to the throat, neck, back, jaw, shoulders or arms
- chest discomfort with lightheadedness, dizziness, sweating, pallor, nausea, or SOB
- prolonged symptoms unrelieved by antacids Nitroglycerin or rest
Atypical, less common warning signs of heart attack (especially in women)
- Unusual chest pain, stomach or abdominal pain
- continuous midthoracic or interscaplar pain
- continuous neck or shoulder pain
- isolated right bicep pain
- pain relieved by antacids, pain unrelieved by rest or nitro
- nausea and vomiting, flu like manifestation w/o chest pain
- unexplained intense anxiety, weakness or fatigue
- breathlessness, dizziness
CAD common SS for males
Retrosternal, arm, neck and back pain
CAD women are more likely to have different SS which are
- Indigestion, nausea
- fatigue
- flu like feeling
Angina: interpretation (common/male) retrosternal sensation:
Pressure, heaviness, crushing, squeezing
NOT throbbing ( vascular) or sharp ( neuro)
These signs and symptoms align with what type of heart failure:
- fatigue
-cyanosis
- S3 heart sound (ventricular gallop)
- crackles (from pulmonary vein back up)
- dyspnea
- tachypnea
- orthopnea, PND
LV failure
These signs and symptoms align with what type of heart failure:
- fatigue
- cyanosis
- S3 heart sound ( ventricular gallop)
- edema (peripheral)
- weight gain in 24 hrs
Cor pulmonale is another word for what
RV failure
What is ascites
- Retograde fluid back up into the peritoneal cavity
- tight, stretched skin
- not obesity
Ascites is related to which type of heart failure
RV
What classification of heart failure is considered mild
1 and 2
What classification of heart failure is considered moderate
3
What classification of heart failure is considered severe
4
Exercise tolerance for class 1 heart failure
6-10 METS
Exercise tolerance for class 2 heart failure
4-6 METS
Exercise tolerance for class 3 heart failure
2-3 METS
Exercise tolerance for class 4 heart failure
<2 METS
What classification of heart failure would this be:
Unable to carry out any physical activity without discomfort. Symptoms of fatigue, rapid/irregular heartbeat (palpations) or SOB (dyspnea are present at rest. If any physical activity is undertaken, discomfort increases
Class 4
What classification of heart failure would this be:
Marked limitation of physical activity. Comfortable at rest but less than ordinary activity causes fatigue, rapid/irregular heartbeat beat or SOB
