- That their appetite becomes reduced and they are eating less than they were as an infant.
- Reassure the parent that this is normal
- Use the BMI growth chart to show the parent where their child is placed to back up your claim of normalcy (if the child’s BMI is in fact normal)
What makes toddlers in active families with older children more at risk for a high BMI?
Because families with make sports and activity obligations tend to eat more fast food or junk food and this includes the toddler.
What are some education tips for active families who want to insure their toddler is getting proper nutrition?
- Encourage family meals
- Limit fruit juice
- Include the “5 a day rule”
- Offer suggestions that will allow parents to pack healthy food for children a cooler for the car is a good example
