what is ERCP Endoscopic retrograde cholangiopancreatography
a diagnostic and therapeutic imaging procedure that
combined the use of a flexible endoscope and X-rays to visualise the biliary and pancreatic duct networks.A thin
catheter is passed through the endoscope and inserted through the hepatopancreatic ampulla (of Vater) into the
pancreatic and common bile ducts.A radiological contrast medium is injected into these ducts (in an opposite
direction to the normal flow of bile/pancreatic fluid – hence the term ‘retrograde’), and x-rays are taken.
where does the upper margin of the liver travel to
upper margin of the liver is almost level with the xiphisternal joint. On the left side, it reaches
the fifth costal cartilageand then curves down to its right border, between the seventh and
eleventh ribs in the midaxillary line.
where does the lower margin of the liver travel to
The inferior border is along a line which joins the left upper
and right lower points.
