Types of Appraisals of Stressful Situations

Representative Heuristic
unrealistic optimism where a person believes they have a lower chance of a negative health outcome then reality
Risk
uncertain outcome and something of value is up at stake
Hypochondriac
people who are worried and preoccupied with normal bodily symptoms are indicators of illness

negative emotions, self-consciousness and concern with bodily functions may lead to exaggeration or can accentuate symptoms

1st reference point upon recall sets the tone for how you perceive things, so like seeing something on sale is wow it’s on sale, but if they mark it up to put it on sale it’s the same price

government’s way of giving healthcare through employment or through privately buying a healthcare plan and a smaller healthcare plan is offered to the unemployed

national healthcare service that is tax-funded, directed by the government without user fees, but can have the government deem some parts of healthcare a non-necessity, CANADA

individual and their insurance
Medical Service Misuse
Overuse: typically hypochondriacs and people with depression access it too much
Delayed: putting it off for several reasons resulting in higher healthcare costs and more use of healthcare once they access it
Biopsychosocial Approach to Health
culture and ethnicity play a large part and biological aspects are included
coping styles, economic resources, appraisals and exposure to stress and illness exposure

more biomedical with a blend of some alternative therapies
