What is hard power?
Position power - based on things managers can offer to others
What is soft power?
Personal power - based on the way managers are viewed by others
What is the situational leadership model?
Leaders adjust their styles depending on the readiness of their followers to perform in a given situation.
What is servant leadership?
Transcends self-interest to serve others, the organisation, and society.
What is authentic leadership?
Individuals who know and understand themselves, act consistently with their ethical values. Employees know what leader stands for which creates trust.
What is the self-determination theory?
Motivation lies on a continuum from intrinsic motivation to extrinsic motivation
Instrincally motivated do things because of:
Interest and satisfaction
Extrinsically motivated do things because of:
Rewards and punishment
What is Maslows hierarchy of needs?
5 different need sets that need to be fulfilled in an orderly fashion.
Physiological, safety, love/belonging, esteem, self-actualisation
What is the goal setting theory?
Motivation can be increased and performance enhanced by setting specific and challenging goals and giving timely feedback.
What is equity theory?
People are motivated to seek social equity in the rewards they expect for performance.
