WEEK 2: Layer 6 Muscles of the Back Flashcards
EXAM 1
Layer 5 Muscles
Iliocostalis
-Lumborum
-Thoracis
-Cervicis
Longissimus
-Thoracis
-Cervicis
-Capitis
Spinalis
-Thoracis
-Cervicis
-Capitis
Layer 6 Muscles - Transversospinalis
Spinalis
3 Semispinalis - longest
2 Multifidus - middle
1 Rotatores - deepest
Originate from transverse processes
Insert on spinous processes
Semispinalis - Origin, Insertion, Innervation, Action, Blood Supply
Origin
- Thoracis: TPs of T-spine
- Cervicis: TPs of T-spine and C-spine
- Capitis: TPs of C-spine
Insertion
- Thoracis: SPs of T-spine and C-spine
- Cervicis: Sis of C-spine
- Capitis: Occiput
Innervation
- dorsal rami of spinal nerves in the area
Action
- B/L = spinal extension
- U/L = contralateral rotation
Blood Supply
Transversospinalis
Rot
Layer 5 vs Layer 6 directional movement
Layer 5 ipsilateral
Layer 6 contralateral
Multifidus meaning
MANY separate muscles in the back
-largest muscle sin the lower back
Multifidus - Origin
Origin
-posterior sacrum
-PSIS
-inner surface of the erector spine
-mammillary process of each vertebrae
Insertion
-spinous process of the lumbar spine tracing up the thoracic spine
Innervation
- dorsal rami of spinal nerve in that area
Action
- extend the trunk at the spinal joint
Rotatores - Longus & Brevis
Origin
- TP of all vertebrae
Insertion
Brevis: (root/lamina) SP of 1 segment above
Longus: (root/lamina) SP of 2 segment above
Segment amounts for layer 5 muscles
3 Semispinalis - longest
2 Multifidus - middle
1 Rotatores - deepest
Minor Deep Muscles
Intertransversalis (medial and lateral)
Interspinalis
Levator Costarum - Longus and Brevis
