thin, less elastic
decreased vascularity
flattening of rete pegs
decreased fibroblasts and loss of sub-q fat
what types of cells are decreased with aging
langerhans (50% by age 80- altered immunity) and melanocytes (8-20% every 10 years after 30)

decreased
nerve function
deceased ability to thermo-regulate and an increased pain threshold
what is skin more susceptible to
skin shearing and separation of layers
what is integumentary aging further exacerbated by
meds, nutrition, organ failure, disease like DM, vascular compromise, for nutrition
what are some general prevention things we want to do with people with skin issues
nutrition and hydration (decrease risk for skin issues)
environment at 40% humidity
control cormorbidities
moisturize skin
bathing with integumentary compromise
- avoid bar goals and use a gentle moisturizing liquid,

- moisturize within 3 minutes to trap moisture
- no fragrance lotions
- don’t over bathe (so 10 minutes daily or 2x/week)
