Introduction/Literature Review
Section that lays out the specifics of how the research was conducted
Method
The heart of the research article. You should plan on reading this section, even if you do not understand all of the statistical analyses being used.
Results
The section of the article where the authors offer their interpretation of the findings and how they believe the results should be understood and applied.
Discussion
The list at the end of an article, but this can be an invaluable source of related works.
References
The central question(s) you are seeking to answer in your research study. It may ask what, how, or why something is happening
Research question
The idea that knowledge or expertise in different areas is not based on an underlying general capability, but rather determined by particular capabilities or experiences within an area
Domain-specific
The area of psychology that integrates science, theory, and practiceto treat patients’ psychologically-based distress
Clinical Psychology
An area of psychology that focuses on studying the strengths and virtues that enable individual and communities to thrive
Positive Psychology
A statement that predicts the outcome of your research study. It specifies a predicted answer to your research question
Hypothesis
The idea that we are uncomfortable holding conflicting thoughts simultaneously and that we are motivated to reduce this discomfort by changing our existing thoughts to bring about a more consistent belief system
Cognitive dissonance
The specific procedures or techniques that are used to identify, collect, and analyze information about a topic
Methodology
The tools that are used to collect research data (e.g., surveys)
