Week 2 Flashcards
Define visual dominance
The tendency forvisualinformation to determinewhat isperceived when there is a conflict between thevisualinformation and information from another sensory
Explain titchener circles illusion
- In thisillusion, two identical discs can be perceived as being different in size when one is surrounded by an annulus of smallercirclesand the other is surrounded by an annulus of largercircles
what are the two stages of movement as stated in the woodworth study
- Initial impulse (preprogrammed)
2. Current control (visual feedback)
Define Impulse variability model
The impulse-variability theory maintains that as the distance from a target increases, more force must be exerted, leading to a greater variability in movement trajectory, decreasing the chances of hitting the target.
What does the iterative corrections model state?
- Feedback from one movement is used perform the next submovement etc.
Basic assumption of the impulse variability model
All movements characterised by variability
Basic observation of the impulse variability model
Force and force variability are related, duration and duration variability are related
impulse = ?
Change in momentum
Momentum = ?
Mass x velocity
Define Transport phase
Hand is carried towards object
Define Grasp phase
Fingers wrap around object
Motion provides critical …….?
Visual cues
catching a ball requires?
Coincident timing skills which require anticipation
Information received from the environment is not perceived as meaningful until…..?
a series of inferential processes have been performed
