What is the difference between weather and climate?
Weather = happens at a particular time and place
Climate = long term, statistical, ie humidity, precipitation, wind, temperature, etc.
What are the 4 geographic controls of climate?
- Latitude
- Proximity to land
- Proximity to water
- Elevation
What is the orographic lift? What is it in relation to the rain show effect?
Orographic lift = warm air masses collect over water, releases over land that is of high elevation (ie a mountain)
Rain shadow effect = direct occurrence after orographic lift, as the air masses exhausted their moisture over the highly elevated area they leave the area on the other side dry.
What are the 7 climatic regions of Canada?

Define a winter city.
Winter city = city that has temp at 0C or less for over 2 months, has snow, restricted hours of sunlight.

What is the Royal Proclamation of 1763?
It recognized:

What are the two waves of numbered treaties in Canada?
There were 11 treaties in total. Numbers 1-7 were from 1871-77. Numbers 8-11 were from 1899-1921.
What did the numbered treaties 1-7 proclaim?
They aided in European advancement and settlement across the prairies. Also started development of the Canadian pacific railway.
What did numbered treaties 8-11 proclaim?
They focused on resource extraction.
