Decreases rate of bone breakdown
Osteoporosis and Osteopenia
Indigestion/abdominal pain, bone pain/myalgia, osteonecrosis of the jaw
Metal containing antacids/vitamins, H2RA, PPI (affect absorption)
Precautions: limit to 3-5 years; CI: inability to sit/stand for 30 minutes, abnormalities of the esophagus
PATIENT COUNSELINGS
- take first thing in the morning before you eat or drink
- take with water
- stay sitting and standing upright for 30mins after dose

PATIENT COUNSELINGS
- take first thing in the morning, 30mins before food or drink
- avoid metal containing vitamins for antacids for at least 2 hours
- do not abruptly stop taking this medication

- counsel patients on signs and symptoms of blood clots
- there is an increase risk of blood clots durng the first 4 months of use
- avoid sitting for long periods of time.

Administration of eye drops
- wash hands and remove contact lenses
- tilt head back
- grasp lower lid gently below lashes, pull eyelid away to created a pouch
- place dropper over eye by looking directly at it
- just prior to applying a SINGLE drop, look up
- release eye slowly. close eye gently for 3mins. minimize blinking or squeezing of eyelid.
- blot excessive solution around the eye.
