4 types of surgical abortions

A
  1. Manual Vacuum Aspiration: only surgical option in first 7 weeks, suction by tube
  2. Vacuum Suction Curettage: done 6-14 weeks, cervix dilated and tube used to suction and curette used to scrape uterine lining
  3. Dilation and evacuation: done up to 24 weeks, similar to last one but harder cuz fetus bigger
  4. Second and third Trimester Abortions: rare and usually due to fetal anomalies (after 20th week)
