When is a UMOS require to always make notifications to
New York State Child Abuse and Maltreatment Register (State Central Registry). Refused case will be documented in Telephone Log
ACS (0900x1700) or ACS Emergency Children’s Services after hours
ACS Instant Response Team Coordinator
Suspected child abuse or Child require shelter
When there is an emergency removal of a child and there is the presence of diplomatic immunity, what will the UMOS do?
UMOS will request the Patrol Supervisor to show up and the Patrol Supervisor will determine if child should be removed without court order. If so, the Commanding Officer/Duty Captain will be require to supervise the removal.
Reminder: UMOS does not have the authority to remove child without parental consent. However, Patrol Supervisor has the authority to remove child without parental consent if believed the child needs to be removed.
If child is removed outside residence and parent legally responsible is not notified in 3 scenarios:
Removed outside residence and parent is not notified
Residence is not precinct of occurrence but within NYC
Residence of child is not known or outside NYC
Removed child and parent not notified and is within precinct of occurrence: Direct UMOS to serve notice at resident
Residence is not precinct of occurrence but within NYC:
Desk Officer will have the resident precinct notified to serve the notice
Residence of child is not known or outside NYC: Assigned detective will investigate
