Week 12 Flashcards
Define objectivity
Irrelevant, unrelated factors do not influence the test
Define Reliability
A reliable measure returns the same results each time
Define Validity
Extent to which a test measures what it claims to measure
What are the 3 types of Diagnostic Accuracy?
Why is it relevant?
Absolute Accuracy (same level) Relative Accuracy (rank order/correlation) Variance (same range)
Relevant for feedback and teaching
Define Assessment
Gathering and analysing of information about student achievement
Name/define the 2 types of Assessment
Formative- assessment for learning
Summarise- assessment of learning
Define evaluation
Is the process of making judgement about the quality of students learning and performance
Random error
Observed score
True ability
Put them in order
Observed score = true ability + random error
What are the 5 consequences of assessment
Exemplars/ samples of students work = modification
Use or making rubrics = transparency
Norm-referenced/normative assessment
Criterion-references assessment/curriculum based assessment
Ipsative assessment (based on learner previous work)
What was Doge’s theory (1943)
What are the 5 qualities that make a good teacher?
That there is no one personality type that represents the best teachers
More at ease in social context More willing to assume responsibility Less subject to fears and worries More sensitive to the opinions of others Slower in making decisions
According to Rowe (1974) what makes a good teacher?
Clear objectives for lessons
Good classroom management
Prompt feedback
BUT does not always have direct impact on student achievement- depends how students interpret context
In Wolf’s theory (2017) he identifies the difference between novice and expert
What is the difference?
Novice teachers perceive small events and interpret based on naive theory
Expert teachers perceive lessons in more complex units, immediately focus on the most important information, and use their knowledge for explaining and predicting behaviour
Pygmalion
What did Friedrich (2015) and Rosenthal and Jacobson (1968) discover?
If we prophesy that something will happen, we behave in a manner that will make it happen
