week 11 LLLT Flashcards
What is LLLT
the ability to produce a photo chemical change in a cell
what is bio-stimulation?
the ability to stimulate a variety of cellular functions.
what is the most beneficial wave length for Bio-stimulation?
630-850 red & NIR & Green 532nm for wound healing, ulcers & acne.
Does LLLT damage the hydrogen bonds in cells?
no
What wattage does LLLT usually use?
1/2 a watt or 500mw
Would us used red light pr NIR to target deep tissues & Blood vessels?
NIR
Would you used red light or NIR to target the cellular level on living tissues?
Red light
would you have more or less photons pass by in 1 second with blue light, compared to red light?
more, due to the smaller wavelength.
what is a chromophore?
the target which a photon is absorbed into. (Melanin…)
what is the best wavelength optical window for absorption by tissue chromophore’s?
600-1200 nm red- IR
what is the stokes shift?
the slight difference between the absorbed photon energy & the released photon energy.
what are some cells that are effected by LLLT for pain relief? (2)
neutrons and Glial cells
what are the cells affected by LLLT for anti inflammatory and anti edema (3)
Neutrophils, macrophage, mast cells
what are the cells affected by LLLT in wound healing? (5)
endothelial cells, keratincytes, fibroblasts macrophage and neutrophils
what positive effects does LLLT have (4)
decreases cell death, increases cell migration, increases cell adhesion & increases cell proliferation
what is the range of joules for superficial LLLT
1-10 joules
what is the range of joules for deeper seated treatments in LLLT
10-50 joules
If I was treating acne, would it be considered superficial or deep & what wavelength range would I use?
superficial 600 - 700 nm
if I was treating a fresh surgical scar is it considered to be superficial or deep & what wavelength range would I use?
deep, 770-950 nm NIR
what wavelengths are said to have no cellular response?
700-770 nm
If I was treating someone with chronic pain, how often would I be treating them?
Every day until the pain is under control
If I was treating someone with a wound (like an ulcer) how often would I be treating them with LLLT?
Day on day off
