  • govern the sexual culture of any society at any given time in history, influencing sexual identities & practicies & people’s reactions to them
  • some indigenous cultures talk about sex in a very different way than we do
  • procreative sex within a recognized relationship is a sexual norm
  • there is an emphasis on what women are doing and controlling that
  • we have a difficult time seperating the act and the person

  • consent… formal = laws, informal = we think ppl who have big age gaps are weirdos
  • nature of sexual partner… formal = laws abt bestiality, incest, ages, etc., informal = cousins, profs & students, etc.
