week 10 Flashcards
what are the 2 arterial systems?
anterior circulation-carotid circulation
posterior circulation-vertebral/basilar circulation
How are cerebral hemispheres supplied w blood?
anterior and posterior systems
how is the brainstem supplied?
posterior system only
how is the spinal cord supplied?
systemic circulation and vertebral arteries
what is caudal medulla supplied by?
medial regions-spinal arteries
lateral regions-vertebral arteries
what is rostral medulla supplied by?
medial regions-vertebral arteries
lateral regions-branch off vertebral artery-PICA
what is located at pons-medullary junction?
vertebral arteries join to form basilar artery
what are the three branches of basilar artery?
paramedian branch-midline pons
short circumferential branches-lateral pons
long circumferential branches-dorsolateral pons
what supplies rostral midbrain
posterior cerebral arteries
what supplies caudal midbrain?
basilar artery
tegmentum/tectum
proximal branches of each artery (posterior cerebral arteries, basilar arteries) supply base/tegmentum. Tectum is supplied by posterior cerebral arterys more distal branches.
cerebral cortex
supplied by distal branches or anterior, middle, posterior cerebral arteries
anterior cerebral artery
dorsal and medial portion of frontal and parietal lobes
middle cerebral artery
lateral convexity of cortex-parietal, temporal, occipital, internal capsule striatum of basal ganglia
posterior cerebral artery
occipital lobe and portions of medial/inferior temporal lobes
