Step 1?
Position patient (STMA) and place OPA
Step 2?
Commence ventilations with BVM at a rate of 12breaths/min (1every 6 seconds)
step 3?
size up IGEL correctly:
SIZE 4 for manikin.
Size 5 = 90kg+
size 4 = 50-90kg
size 3 = 30-60kg
size 2.5 = large pediatric - 25-35kg
size 2 = small paediatric - 10-25kg
size 1.5 = infant - 5-12kg
size 1 = neonate - 2-5kg
Stage 4?
Lubricate Cuff of Igel (avoid bowl of cuff)
Stage 5?
Open mouth and place I-gel against hard palate (roof of the mouth)
stage 6?
Glide against roof of mouth into airway until definitive resistance met.
Stage 7
ventilate - do this with less than 30 second gap inbetween BVM and setting up the I-gel!!
Stage 8?
Confirm I-gel working with EtCO2 ( EXPIRED CARBON DIOXIDE)
NORMAL VALUE = 4.0-5.7kPa
Can be measured with:
- CAPNOMETRY = NUMBER
- CAPNOGRAPHY = GRAPH/WAVEFORM
stage 9?
SECURE IN PLACE
