week 1 - I-GEL - important things to know Flashcards
1
Q
How do we measure ventilation?
A
- Respiratory rate and effort
- end tidal CO2
2
Q
Patient Airway - step wise approach?
A
1) Manual manoeuveres
2) OPA/NPA
3) I-gel/SAD
4)ETI (endotracheal tube intubation)
3
Q
Benefits of I-gel?
A
- avoids hyperventilation.
- creates a better seal, meaning more air is received into the lungs (less leakage).
- once secured in place - it frees up hands.
- Less likely to inflate the stomach.
4
Q
ETCO2 readings and what to do if they are LOW or HIGH?
A
- if LOW reading SLOW down ventilation
- if HIGH reading SUPPLY (speed up) ventilation rate.
