Describe the process of thematic analysis

A

Familiarisation with the data - transcribe and re read
Code the data - interesting features highlighted
Search for themes - patterns in the codes
Review the themes - check how the themes fit with data set as a whole
Define and name themes
Write up the report

A

To ‘pull apart’ data

A code is a label attached to a selection of text which can later be related to a theme

A

Deductive (top down/apriory)
- driven by a specific research question

Inductive (bottom up/emergent)
- themes are linked to the data
