What is done for cold weather ops?
- Potable water - extra hose tail to maintain circulation to keep from freezing (trickle hose)
- Drain firemains
- Keep shoreties clear of snow.
- Shovel around brow/decks
How do you set the heavy weather bill (Group 5)?
- Contact the CO/XO/EO
- Set Zebra
- Double or more mooring lines
- Make perpetrations to secure shoretie
- Make preparations to bring brow in
- Make ready to drop outboard anchor (break out sledge hammer)
- If needed recall
A. At least one underway quaked OOD and
EOW.
B. Crew
What are the SOSO classifications to a message?
(Z) Flash - Respond ASAP goal is under 10 minutes
(O) Immediate - Respond under 30 minutes
(P) Priority - Respond under 3 hours
(R) Routine - Respond under 6 hours
How do you begin a recall?
- First call CO/XO/EO/OPS/BOSN
- Go to the XO’s public folder and use the link and password for the emergency notification system
- Call all personnel so you can get verbal confirmation they are aware of recall
What flags do you need to be aware of?
- Alpha: Diver in water, pipe every 15 minutes
- Bravo: fueling, pipe every 15 minutes
- Kilo: man aloft, pipe every 15 minutes
- Papa: recall
- Third Sub: Captain away
How do you respond to an ATON discrepancy?
- Grab the watchstander guide
- Use the DFR II in conjunction with DFR I
- If need call OPS and BOSN
- Draft a message if needed
- Call CO

How do you check in a new shipmate?
- During normal work hours:
A. Log name, time of arrival and emplid in smooth log
B. Take to YN2 to get orders validated.
C. Introduce them to new dept head
D. Egrets them if they are to stay onboard that night - After Liberty:
A. Log name, time of arrival and emplid in smooth log
B. Get YN2’s stamp and sign orders to validate them.
C. Egres them if they are to stay onboard that night.
What is the Tsunami Bill?
- Less than 2 hours notice of Tsunami?
- Notify the CO, XO and all dept. heads
- Recall additional personnel as needed to help secure the ship.
- Have ISW continuously monitor NOAA Tsunami center website
- Set material condition zebra
- Drop one anchor underfoot with 3 shots on deck; drop the other anchor to short stay.
- Set additional breast lines. Slack mooring lines to allow for extreme rise and fall of tides.
- Disconnect and secure all shore ties.
- Evacuate all personnel to higher ground.
- All personnel shall muster at Nemetz Gazebo. CDO takes muster.
What is the Tsunami bill when you have greater than 2 hours warning?
- Complete underway checklist.
- Notify CO, XO, all dept. heads.
- Commence immediate recall. Hoist papa flag. Sound personnel recall signal (short-prolonged-prolonged-shirt)
- Have ISW continuously monitor NOAA Tsunami website.
- If SOPA coordinate sailing times with other cutters.
- Contact D17 command center
- Set material condition Zebra
- Get underway as soon as possible.
