Air mass
Air that stays over an area that takes on properties of that area.
Continental polar
Cold and dry.
Maritime polar
Cold and wet.
Maritime tropical
Ward and wet.
Continental tropical
Warm and dry.
Front
Boundary between two air masses.
Warm front
A warm air mass meets and overrides a cold air mass.
Cold front
Cold air mass meets and causes a warm air mass to rise.
Occluded front
A cold air mass over takes a slower moving warm air mass and forces warm air up. The cold air continues advancing until it meets another cold air mass.
Stationary front
A cold air mass meets a warm air mass and results in little movement.
Wind vane
Shows the direction wind is blowing from.
Rain gauge
Measures how much rain has fallen.
Thermometer
Measure how hot it is.
Hygrometer
Measures humidity.
Barometer
Measures air pressure.
