Air Mass
A large body of air with similar properties throughout it.
Continental Polar
This is an air mass which has the properties of being cold and dry throughout it.
Maritime Polar
This is an air mass with the properties of being cold and wet throughout it.
Continental Tropical
This is an air mass with the properties if being warm and dry throughout it.
Maritime Tropical
This is an air mass with the properties of being warm and wet throughout it.
Front
This is the boundary between two air masses.
Warm Front
In a warm front, warm air moves over cold air, it also meets and overrides it. It brings warmer temperatures and long periods of light drizzle.
Cold Front
This is where cold air meets warm air and forces it to rise. It is fast-moving, and it brings thunderstorms and cooler temperatures.
Occluded Front
This is when a cold air mass overtakes a slow-moving warm air mass and forces the warm air up. The cold air continues advancing until meeting another cold air mass. It brings cooler temperatures and more precipitation.
Stationary Front
This is when a cold air mass meets a warm air mass and causes little movement, it brings drizzles, and has little movement it moves back and forth over original area.
Wind Vane
A tool that tells which direction the wind is coming from.
Rain Gauge
A tool that measures the amount of rain fallen.
Thermometer
A weather tool that measures temperature by using mercury.
Hygrometer
A weather tool that measures humidity in the air, or moisture in the air.
Barometer
A weather tool that measures air pressure.
