Ecosystems Flashcards
Environment
All the biotic and abiotic factors that surround an organism.
Adaptation
A structure of behavior that allows a species to survive and reproduce in its environment.
Species
All members of a same population.
Community
Organisms that live together in an ecosystem.
Biotic
Any living organism.
Abiotic
Any non-living thing.
Niche
A certain job or role that each factor plays in an environment.
Ecosystem
A place in which biotic and abiotic factors interact.
Population
A certain group of the same animal.
Habitat
An area in which biotic factors live in.
Biome
Regions of the world with similar climate, plantation, and animals.
Taiga
The Taiga is the largest biome in the world, and it is also the 2nd coldest.
Deciduous Forest
The thing that makes deciduous forests so special is that the trees (deciduous trees) lose their leaves before winter, or in autumn.
Rainforest
The main fact about the rainforest is that it is the best home for colorful, diverse animals and plantation.
Grasslands
The main facts about the grassland are that it is hot as well as cold and it consists mainly of grass and a few scattered trees.
Desert
The desert covers about 1/5 of the earth. The main thing that people forget is that deserts can be hot as well as cold. The animals must also learn how to conserve water.
Tundra
The tundra also covers about 1/5 of the earth. Animals and plantation in the tundra have to adapt to extreme cold temperatures, seeing as how it is the COLDEST biome on earth.
Decomposer
An organism that eats dead plants or animals, like fungi.
Consumer
An animal that depends on other animals or producers for food, like a deer.
Producer
An organism that generates its own food with energy from the sun, like plants.
Carnivore
An animal that only eats meat, such as a tiger.
Herbivore
An animal that eats only plants and vegetables, like Nikhil, or a Zebra.
Omnivore
An animal that eats meat and plants/vegetables, so basically a mix between a carnivore and a herbivore.
Food Web
A group of interconnected food chains.
Food Chain
A hierarchical series of organisms each dependent on the next as a source of food.
