Weather Flashcards
When is a Takeoff Alternate required?
When the weather conditions at the departure airport are below the lowest available CAT I Approach minimums
How far can the TO Alternate be? Based on what?
1 Hour based on flight in still air at normal cruise speed on 1 engine. PSA says 300NM
When is a destination alternate required?
Always unless 1, 2, 3
-1 hour before or after
-2000’
3SM
How do we derive alternate minimums?
The 1 Navaid, 2 Navaid Rule:
-1 Navaid: Add 400 (to rounded up MDA/DA) and 1SM to CAT 1 Mins
-2 Navaid: Add 200 (to rounded up MDA/DA) and 1/2SM to CAT 1 Mins
What is Exemption 17347?
Allows us to dispatch a flight to a destination when the WX uses conditional statements indicating less than required CAT 1 minimums.
What must the Forecast be to use Exemption 17347?
-Destination main body VISIBILITY must be at least equal to landing mins and conditional must not be less than 1/2.
-First alternate main body VIS & CEILING must meet derived minimums and conditional not less than 1/2
-Second alternate VIS AND CEILING must meet derived minimums
What is the Marginal Rule?
Destination and first alternate are considered marginal when:
(At the destination the ceiling equals the published minimums
“OR”
the visibility equals published minimums)
AND
(The ceiling at the alternat equals the derived minimums
“OR”
the visibility equals the derived minimums)
What items are the minimum required items on the dispatch release?
- AC Registration
- Flight Number
- Flight Type - IFR
- Airports involved
- Minimum TO fuel
Per FOM when are you required to declare min fuel?
When projected fuel consumption will result in landing with less than 45 minutes
Per the FOM when are you required to declare emergency fuel?
When projected fuel consumption will result in landing with less than 30 minutes of fuel
What is RAMP Fuel?
T/O + Tanker + Taxi
Max ramp fuel vs FOB tolerance?
+/- 500lbs but never less than T/O + Taxi
What is Takeoff fuel?
BARC: Burn + Alt + Reserve + Contingency
What is the definition of Burn fuel?
Climb + Cruise/Descent + 1 Instrument approach at destination
What does contingency fuel include and is it required?
Anticipated delays, holding, historical fuel requirement, possible missed approach and other conditions delaying landing
Yes it is required
What is Tanker fuel?
Provides additional fuel for APU burn at gate and unusual ground delays such as deicing
It is required
You are holding at your destination, how long can you hold?
BARM: Burn + Alt + Reserve + Missed
How is Reserve Fuel calculated?
45 minutes at Long Range Cruise burn at 25,000’
What Altitude is the Reserve fuel burn calculated?
0-50 miles: 10,000’
51-100 miles: 15,000’
101-150 miles: 20,000’
151-200 miles: 25,000’
T/O fuel is listed as 5002 lbs, what number should be written on the TOLD card?
5.1
Does Reserve 00:45 fuel mean you have 45 minutes of fuel?
No. LRC at 25,000’
How does PSA calculate ALT FUEL?
Direct to the farthest alternare using normal cruise and an additional 400 lbs for missed approach
When are we required to conduct an enroute fuel check?
At least once if the flight is more than 36 minutes, and at least once per hour during cruise on longer flights
What is the minimum Contingency fuel?
CRJ700: 937
CRJ900: 1082
What is the minimum Tanker Fuel?
330lbs
What are the minimum reserve fuel requirements?
CRJ700: 2100lbs
CRJ900: 2200lbs
What is the FO signing when he signs the release?
Compliance with EFB STAR and rest requirements
What is the lowest TO visibility we can use?
500,500,500
