Wear Debris Monitoring Flashcards
1
Q
What are the two acronyms used what do they mean:
A
- EFD = Early Failure Detection
- SOAP = Sprectrometic Oil Analysis Program
2
Q
Adv detecting mechanical failure in early stages
A
- Minimise the cost
- assist maintenance planning
- assist the repair agencies by identification of the item or area of failure
- ensure the fluid has no contamination
3
Q
When is EFD carried out
A
- After post installation ground run
- completion of 5-10 flying hours
- Final sample prior to deteriation
- AMM
- wear debris section
- heavy landing , blade strike , over torque
4
Q
How can magnetic probes be identified
A
Colour coded
5
Q
When carrying out EFD what is mandatory
A
You must read COSHH ans SDS
6
Q
Typical procedure of magnetic probe
A
- Ensure area around thr magnetic probe is clean
- Remove magnetic probe from equipment
- wash probe in non magnetic container
- Visually examine probe using X6 magnifier
- If debris is considered abnormal inform your supervisor = QUARANTINE
7
Q
When is SOAP procedure carried out
A
- Same as EFD
- but on completion of 10 flying hours
8
Q
Two types of SOAP record forms
A
MoD Form 730 - paper
MoD Form 730C - sticker
9
Q
In SOAP when are samples to be taken.
A
Taken within 30mins of shutdown after running time of at least 15 mins
10
Q
Spectrometric Oil Analysis has two methods
A
- Dip tube
- Sample through magnetic probe
