Clearing M240B
Safety on
With palm facing up, pull cocking handle to rear.
When bolt is held rear by sear, return cocking handle to fwd position & place safely on.
Raise cover assembly & ensure that feed tray, receiver assembly to rear.
While maintaining rearward pressure, pulls the trigger & eases bolt assembly forward.
Unloading M240B
Pull & lock to rear. Return cock handle to fwd position. Put on safe. Raise cover assembly & removes any ammo from feed tray. Perform 4-point safety check.
Loading M240B
Make sure weapon is cleared.
Place 1st round of belt in feed tray groove, double link leading w/open side of links face down.
Hold belt about 6 rounds from loading end, while closing cover assembly.
Ensure round remains in feed tray groove & close cover assembly.
M240B Rates of fire
Sustained - 100 rpm fired in 6-9 rounds & burst 4-5 seconds between burst (barrel change every 10 mins)
Rapid- 200 rpm fired in 10-13 round burst & 2-3 secs between burst (change every 2 min).
Cyclic - 650-950 rpm in continuous bursts (barrel change every minute).
Grazing Fire
Center of cone of fire does not rise above 1 meter.
Entire cone of fire does not rise more than 1.8 meters.
FPL
Final protective fire.
Line along which grazing fire is placed to stop enemy assault.
Principal direction of fire.
Used only if FPL not assigned.

M500 loading
Place on safe.
Ensure fore end is fully fwd.
Turn shotgun over & insert cartridge into magazine until magazine is fully loaded.
Depress action lock & move force end full to rear & forward again, chambering first round.
M500 Unloading ( removing cartridge from magazine)
Safe position.
Assure fore end fully fwd.
Turn shotgun over, depress shell latch, allowing cartridges to slide out of magazine tube.
Remove cartridge from shotgun, repeat until mag is empty
M500 unloading (removing cartridges from chamber)

Assigned PDF / FPL
Magnetic azimuth of machine gun to prominent terrain feature
Dead space
Areas signifying grazing fires
Specified targets numbered in sequence w/ direction in mild
Rough sketch/ drawing serves as record of firing data & document for defensive fire planning.
One copy remains at gun position as record of firing data
Gunner uses card to recall data to fire on predetermined targets & as aid in estimating ranges to other targets during good visibility.
Other copy is sent to next higher hq, who use it to organize defense & prepare fire plan sketch
Integration of weapons system on fire plan
Machine guns have capabilities & limitations just as any weapon system does.
Though powerful weapons do not stand alone.
Most effective employed in concert w/ other weapons in attempt to achieve synergetic effect where fires of 1 weapon compliment & augment fires of another.
Capabilities & limitations of every available weapon must be considered in order to achieve this in tactical plan.

Grazing fire (respect to ground)
Fire appox parallel to ground where center of cone o fire does not rise above 1 meter
Plunging fire (respect to ground)
Fire in which angle of fall of rounds w/ reference to slope of ground is such that danger space is practically confined to beaten zone & length of beaten zone is materially shortened.
Frontal (respect to target)
Long axis of beaten zone is at right angle to long axis of target
Flanking ( respect to target)
Delivered against flank of target
Oblique fire (respect to target)
Long axis of beaten zone is at angle, but not right angle, to long axis of target
Enfilade fire (respect to target)
Long axis of beaten coincides w/ long axis of target. Either frontal/flanking & is most desirable class of fire w/ respect to target because it makes use of max beaten zone.
Classes of fire w/ respect to gun

Fixed
Fired delivered on point target
Traversing
Distributed against wide target requiring successive changes in direction of gun
Searching
