Neutrophilia
○ Cause: infection, inflammation, tissue damage/infarction.
○ Pregnancy, after exercise, corticosteroid use
○ Toxic change- left shift- see band form (precursor- non segmented)
○ Toxic granulation- vacuoles forming
○ CML
Eosinophili
○ Allergy or parasitic infection (like strongloidiasis)
○ Asthma, eczema, drugs
○ CML
Basophilia
○ Uncommon
○ CML
Monocytosis
○ Chronic infection/inflammation
Lymphocytosis
○ Transient viral infection
○ CLL (persistent)
○ Whooping cough - children
Neutrotenia
- Chemotherapy/radiotherapy
- Autoimmune/drugs or bacteria/viral infection
- Ethnic- African
- Risk of serious infection- treat with IV antibiotic
Lymphopenia cause
HIV infection
-Chemotherapy/radiotherapy
-corticosteroids
Hypersegmentated neutrophils
normal= 3-5 lobes
-right shift
From lack of Vit B12/folic acid - megaloblastic anemia
