Blood Transfusion- Components Flashcards
Packed red cells:
shelf life and storage?
Use?
shelf life 35 days
storage fridge 4 degrees Celsius
Use: anaemia, haemorrhage
Platelets:
shelf life and storage?
Use?
shelf life- 7 days
storage- room temp. Need constant agitation to ensure they are constantly oxygenated.
Use: reduce risk of bleeding. Ensure ABO group match.
Fresh frozen plasma
shelf life and storage?
Use?
shelf life- 3 years
storage: -25 degrees Celsius
Use- reduce risk of bleeding/multiple clotting factor deficiencies.
Transfusion: thawed in water bath-> Stored at 4 degrees Celsius, used within 24 hrs.
Cryoprecipitate
shelf life and storage?
Use?
shelf life- 3 years
storage: -25 degrees Celsius.
Transfusion: thawed in water bath-> stored at room temperature and use within 4HRS.
Use: reduce risk of bleeding when FIBRINOGEN is low (from major haemorrhage/DIC)
How is cryoprecipitate is made?
Slow thawing of FFP overnight until there is precipitate. Precipitate suspended in small volume of plasma and frozen to maintain activity of clotting factors
Plasma-derived medicinal products
What are they
Human albumin solution,
Ig solution
Clotting factor concentrates
HAS?
Replace plasma volume when it is lost from trauma
What does cryoprecipitate have
VWF
Fibrinogen
Factor 8, 13
What does FFP Contain
All coagulation factors - to treat prolonged PT/APTT
