A
Keratinising- epithelial cells that become thicker/stronger protective structure. Lose their organelles and nuclei. (Skin)
Non-keratinising- retain their nuclei (epithelium lining of mouth, oesophagus, anus, cervix, vagina)

A
Protect underlying tissue from physical/chemical trauma like heat, cold, solvent (alcohol), abrasion etc
