What is meant by Level 1 water operations?
Within 3m of an unprotected waters edge
Water that is shallow and slow-moving enough that there is no risk of FF being swept off their feet.
Water that does not go over the top of FF boots.
What is meant by Level 2 water operations?
Where FF may have to commit into still or moving water to perform a rescue. Includes all incidents involving people in the water.
What is meant by Level 3 water operations?
Involve the Floor Response Kit where FF may work under the guidance of FRU SRT in or near floodwater.
When will a Tactical Advisor Rescue (TAT) be mobilised?
When level 2 water operations have been implemented.
The IC must establish a restricted zone at a water level 1 incident from any unprotected water’s edge. How far away from the edge should this zone be?
at least 3m from the water’s edge.
Water level 1 - FF working within the 3m restricted zone should be donned in what level of PPE?
Full FF gear
Personal Floatation Device
Helmets may be removed or worn with chin strap undone.

When can FF who are not swift water trained be committed to the water?
As a very last resort when the situation is so critical that to await the arrival of further resources is likely to result in the loss of life.
What must be in place if someone enters the water at level 1 to affect a rescue?
A floating safety line supervisor.
What is the maximum capacity for an Emergency Rescue Boat?
7 people (650kg) Includes rescuers.
When can LFB personnel perform sub surface water rescue?
Never.
How are FRU swift water technicians identifiable?
By wearing a red helmet.
