DCW (Domestic Cold Water)
Potable water for human consumption, bathing, etc.
DHW (Domestic Hot Water)
Heated domestic cold water.
HWR (Hot Water Return)
Recirculated DHW to expedite hot water to fixture.
TW (Tempered Water)
Potable water, 60°F to 100°F for use at emergency wash fixtures.
ICW (Industrial Cold Water)
Non-potable water
IHW (Industrial Hot Water)
Non-potable. Heated industrial cold water.
RCW (Reclaimed Water)
Non-potable. For reuse in flush fixtures and irrigation AFTER TREATMENT
IRR (Irrigation water)
Non-potable used for irrigation or landscaping purposes only.
FU (Fixture Units)
A unit assigned to plumbing fixtures to determine water demand.
Can be converted to GPM.
TP (Trap Primer)
Adds small amounts of water to p-traps so the seal is maintained on infrequently used sanitary sewer traps.
WHA (Water Hammer Arrestor)
ABSORBS water hammer (hydraulic shock) in pipes.
PRV (Pressure Regulating/Reducing Valve)
Used to reduce or regulate pressure WITHIN A WATER LINE to a desired setting.
PSV (Pressure Safety Valve)
Prevents over-pressurization.
Flow Control Valve (Circuit Setter)
Limits the FLOW of DHW to maintain minimum temperature
BFP (Back Flow Preventer)
Prevents contamination of domestic water supply.
