Bioswale
A landscape element used to remove silt and pollution from surface runoff water. These are also used to allow for infiltration of surface runoff water into the soil.
Blackwater
Wastewater containing bodily fluids or other biological wastes (water closets, urinals, kitchen sinks, and laundry/utility sinks) *not approved in California yet.

Graywater Treatment Systems

distribution.
Non-Spray Irrigation
Non-potable drip irrigation systems used for irrigating planters, tree wells and landscaping features.
Rainwater Harvesting
The practice of capturing, infiltrating or utilizing rainwater from roofs, parking lots and patios.
Rainwater Treatment System
A non-potable treatment system designed to treat rainwater catchment from roof drains, patio drains, and other storm water drainage influent and produce
non-potable recycled water for building and irrigation distribution. A rainwater treatment system
cannot be used to treat graywater.
Recycled Water
Non-potable water provided either from the city municipality or an on-site treatment system. Uses include cooling tower make up, water closet and urinal flushing, trap primers, and irrigation.
