Q

Explain the Water Cycle

A

The water cycle is how the water cycle is how water cycles through different forms, like solid, liquid, or solid. It is a continuous cycle. Ice can melt into water, which can evaporate into water vapor, which can do condensation to go back into water, which can freeze into ice. Ice can use sublimation to turn into water vapor, and it can use deposition to turn into ice

Q

Explain the treatment of Municipal Drinking Water

A

First, it is taken in from a body of water by a drainage pipe. Then, they add a chemical called Alum, which is then stirred into the water. The Alum forms small sticky clumps called Floc which attract most of the waste sitting in the water. It then goes into a settling tank, where the water slowly flows, letting the Floc sink to the bottom. Then, the clean water is taken out of the tank into one last filter, which takes away the rest of the waste. After that, they add chlorine to kill any micro-organisms that may be living in the water. Then, the clean water is put into storage until it’s used by someone

Q

What are some other ways to treat water?

A

Reverse Osmosis - goes through a big membrane with holes small enough for only water to pass through

Ultraviolet (UV) Radiation - Kills most microorganisms effectively when they’re radiated

Boiling - Emergency measure when all else cannot or should not be done kills pretty much all the stuff that would kill you, just barely making it safe enough to consume
