Cell Organizations Flashcards
Unit 6 - Organizing Cells
What are the 5 major groups of organisms?
Plant Animal Fungi Bacteria Protist
What is an organism?
Organism - A living system with parts that work together to carry to carry out the process of life
What is a Protist? What is a Bacteria? What is a Fungi?
Protist - An organism that shares many traits with plant or animal cells, but is neither one. Usually unicellular, but can also be multicellular
Bacteria - The most basic of all unicellular organisms
Fungi - An organism that gets all it’s nutrients from dead or decaying matter, like a plant but doesn’t use photosynthesis for food
What is a tissue? What is an organ? What is an organ system?
Tissue - A group of differentiated cells that work together to perform a function
Organ - Two or more tissues that work together to perform one or more functions
Organ system - A group of organs that work together to perform related functions
What is the Musculoskeletal system’s function?
It protects your insides from external forces, keeps the structure of your body, and makes you move. It’s main organs are muscles and bones
What is the Circulatory system’s function?
It transports nutrients, dissolved gasses (carbon dioxide and oxygen), and waste to and from cells in the bloodstream. It’s main organs are the heart, and blood vessels
What is the Respiratory system’s function?
It exchanges Oxygen and Carbon Dioxide between you and the outside environment, AKA it lets you breathe. It’s main organs are the lungs, the windpipe, and blood vessels (for transporting the gasses)
What is the Digestive system’s function?
It breaks down food into tiny nutrient particles to be transported to all your cells in need of a snac. It’s main organs are the mouth, esophagus (throat), stomach, liver, intestines, and anus
What is the Nervous system’s function?
responds to changes outside and inside your body, makes you feel things, and tells all the other organ systems what to do. It’s main organs are the brain, spinal cord and nerves, sensory organs (eyes, ears, nose, taste buds)
