Cell Basix Flashcards
Unit 4 - Cells: The Basic Units of Life
What is a Cell?
Cell - The basic structural and functional unit of life
What are the components of a Compound Microscope
Ocular lens Coarse-adjustment knob Fine-adjustment knob Stage Stage clips Light source Diaphragm Objective lenses Revolving Nosepiece
What are the characteristics of all Living Things? (Organisms)
Living things grow in size, reproduce, and repair themselves
Living things require energy
Living things respond to changes in their environment
living things have a lifespan
living things produce waste
What does the Cell Theory state?
The Cell Theory states that all living things consist of cells, and cells are the basic structural and functional unit of life, and that all cells come from pre-existing cells
What are the Organelles in Cells?
Cell Membrane Nucleus Cell Wall Vacuole Cytoplasm Chloroplast
What is the difference between a Plant and Animal Cell?
Plant cells have 2 organelles that Animals don’t. they have a Cell Wall, which is a strong, rigid wall that contains the cell, that makes up the structure of the plant. Plants also have Chloroplast, which turn sunlight, water, and nutrients from soil into food for the cell. The plant cell makes it’s own food, since the plant doesn’t have a bloodstream that carries to it all the nutrients it needs
