Function of water
A
Metabolite in lots of metabolic reactions ie condensation and hydrolysis
Solvent- substances can dissolve in it as it is polar
High latent heat of vaporisation - helps with temp control- takes a lot of energy to break H bonds between molecules - useful for organisms can use water loss fro, evaporation to cool down
High SHC- Can absorb lots of water before it beings to get hot- helpful for organisms - helps organisms internal body temp- and is a good habitat
Cohesive- Stick together helps water transport in plants and organisms also means high surface tension- helps with pond skaters and other insects walk on surface of pond.
