Energy and ATP Flashcards
What is ATP made from
nucleotide base adenine, ribose sugar and 3 phosphate groups
How is ATP released
Via a hydrolysis reaction and diffused to parts of the cell that need energy
When energy is needed by a cell what happens to ATP and how
It breaks down in to ADP and inorganic phosphate
Catalysed by ATP hydrolase
The released phosphate can be added to another compound - phosphorylation which makes a compound more reactive
How can ATP be re-synthesised
Condensation reaction between ADP and P catalysed by ATP synthase
Role of Hydrogen ions
The more hydrogen ions present the lower the Ph of an environment and enzyme controlled reactions are all affected by PH.
Help control PH in digestion
Released during various metabolic reactions
Role of Sodium ions
A mol of glucose or amino acids can be transported across a cell alongside a Na ion - co transport
