Q

Process of DNA replication

A

Enzyme DNA helicase breaks H bonds between bases which makes the helix unwind forming 2 single strands
Each original single strand acts as a template for a new strand
Base pairing means free DNA nucleotide are attracted to their complementary bases
Condensation reactions join the nucleotides pf the new strands together catalysed by DNA polymerase
H bonds form between bases and strands
Each DNA mol contains 1 strand from original DNA and one new strand

Q

What is semi- conservative replication

A

DNA copies itself before cell division so that the new cell has the full amount of DNA. Half of the strands in each new DNA molecule are from original DNA molecule
