Q

What do sanders use?

A

Abrasive paper

17
Q

Why might someone use palm sander rather than orbital sander?

A

Palm sanders have triangular abrasive paper so it can sand into corners with them,

18
Q

Why do belt sanders and disc sander tend to be used at start?

A

Aggressively remove large amounts so used at start, and orbital/palm sanders at end for finish.

19
Q

What safety do you have take place when using belt sander or using a palm sanders/ orbital sander?

A

Join the extraction unit, and for disc sander that guard is there.

20
Q

How does wood lathe work?

A

A lathe is used to rotate piece of timber and special tool cut into wood to create a ‘turned shape’

21
Q

How to use “between centres turning” to form round components like chair legs

A

1)Begin with SQAURE section of timber with edges PLANED off. There should be SAW CUT across the end
2) FORK CENTRE (connected to motor) holds the wood piece on the on the HOLLOW SPINDLE in the HEADSTOCK and DEAD CENTRE in TAILSTOCK allows the wood to spin freely.
3) Whilst rotating the wood, tools placed on REST to cut and carve shaped into wood.

22
Q

How to carry out FACEPLATE TURNING? to create bowls

A

1) Wood piece, flatter an larger than in between centre, screwed to faceplate that is attached to hollow spindle.
2) Motor spins the wood and tools placed on rest to cut and carve the wood piece.

23
Q

What does a router do?

A

It cuts groove into timbers. A template for complex shapes can help it and guides for straight lines.
