Timbers can be sold planed or rough sawn. Define what they are when would you use them.
> > > Planed is when they have smooth finishes and faces. Only used when finish and accuracy matter as they are more expensive than rough sawn.
Rough sawn doesn’t have a smooth finish or any treatment after conversion.
What are some size and sections of woods sold in timber yards in biggest to small. Describe what they are.
1) Planks- 50mm thick x 225or375
2) Boards- smaller version of planks 50 x >100
3) Strips- smaller than board <50 x <100
4) squares- equal width and thickness
5) dowelling- small cylindrical rods
6) Timber mouldings- variety of shapes anjd sizes.
What are woodscrews used for and what are they made out of?
Used for NEAT, STRONG FIXING of wood to other materials and hinges and catches.

List and describe usage of heads of screws.
1) Countersunk screws- When head wanted at level of surface
2) Round head- to fasten thin materials
3) Raised head - decorative purpose such as door handles.
4) Twinfast- TWO THREADS so greater HOLDING POWER so used on CHIPBOARD
5) Coach- where greater HOLDING POWER required.
Why might door handles or wardrobes use caps and cups?
To enhance the look of screwheads.

Difference between nuts and bolts.
Nuts and bolts work by tightening a nut along a threaded bolt so that the sheet material is compressed in place. Bolts are also used for unthreaded holes.
Screws work in a very similar way - as a screw is turned it drives deeper into one material as it compresses another in place.
