Warning Systems Flashcards
Where is the TCAS RA displayed
On the outer Rose of TA/VSI indicator
Accompanied by voice Alerts
What are the indications when departing an MCP selected altitude.
- Departing by more than 250’
- A steady ‘C’ chord
- Aural ALTITUDE
- flashing altitude advisory light
What are the indications when approaching an MCP selected altitude
At 750’ from the selected altitude,
- CAWS generates ‘C’ chord
- Altitude advisory light comes on steady
What conditions will activate the landing gear configuration warning system with the gear not down and locked
- Gear handle not down and flaps extended beyond 26°
2. Gear handle not down. Any throttle fully retarded, with airspeed less than 210 kn and altitude less than 1500 RA
What is the meaning of the different colors displayed by the EGPWS
Magenta Dotted green Dotted Amber Dotted red Solid Amber Solid red
Color and density very based on terrain eight verse airplane altitude
Magenta - no terrain data available
Dotted green - to rain from 2000 below to 500 below(250 with gear down) The airplanes current altitude
Dotted Amber - terrain 500 feet below(250 with gear down) two 2000 above airplanes current altitude
Dotted red - to rain more than 2000 above the airplanes current altitude
Solid Amber - caution to rain. Approximately 60 seconds from impact
Solid red - warning to rain, approximately 30 seconds from impact
Describe the TCAS RA maneuver guidance
Autothrottle and autopilot usage?
- If maneuvering is required, disengage the auto pilot and auto throttle
- Smoothly adjust pitch and thrust to achieve/maintain the vertical guidance indicated by the green band on the TA/VSI.
- Follow the plan lateral flightpath unless visual contact with the conflicting traffic requires other action
What are windshear RWS indications on the PFD during take off or approach and landing
for take off after nose strut extension
- Increasing performance - Amber WINDSHEAR on both the PFD and glareshield. No aural warning.
- Decreasing performance - red WINDSHEAR on both PFD and glare shield. Aural warning tone and three cycles of “WINDSHEAR”
What are the windshear guidance during takeoff, after nose strut extension on FMA
Increasing performance -
- WIND SHR on FMA.
- Pitch guidance available through the auto pilot and or FD.
- WIND SHR Will flash five times on the FMA and then become steady.
- The roll window will remain on changed
Decreasing performance -
- WIND SHR on FMA pitch window.
- guidance is available through the auto pilot and/or FD.
- WND SHR. Will flash five times on the FMA and then become steady.
- roll guidance, wings level, will be provided on the FD and HDG HLD Will be displayed on the FMA
What is the wind shear guidance during approach or landing
Increasing performance -
- guidance is not activated during the approach mode unless the TOGA button is pressed or either engine EPR is 95% of max go around EPR.
- When WIND SHR is on FMA Pitch guidance is available for the auto pilot and or FD.
- The FMA Will flash five times then steady. The role window will remain unchanged
Decreasing performance -
- guidance is not activated unless the TOGA is pressed or 95% max EPR for go around.
- With these conditions windshear guidance is available to the auto pilot and or FD, when displayed on the FMA pitch window Pitch guidance is available to the auto pilot and or FD.
- Windshear will flash five times and then steady.
- Roll guidance will be provided on the FD and HDG HLD will be displayed on the FMA
How do you silence the overspeed warning system
- The CAWS Will generate a clacking sound, alternating with the spoken word “overspeed” or “slat overspeed”
- The warning indications remain active and cannot be silenced until the overspeed condition is corrected
What’s the function of the Pitch Limit Indicator (PLI)
When does it start?
Slats function
- The PLI appears when airplane reaches 60 kn and the airplane is at or below 1500 AGL
- If the slats are extended, the PLI Will be displayed at any altitude
- PLI indicates relationship of airplane angle of attack and stick shaker angle of attack
Where is the TCAS Target symbology displayed
On the TA/VSI indicator and the pedestal radar
Explain the symbol/color of a TCAS TA and other warning methods
- aural alert “TRAFFIC, TRAFFIC” calls attention to a display of a solid amber circle on the TA/VSI indicator and pedestal radar if mode selector is in TCAS or WX/TCAS.
- relative altitude with a climb or divert arrow may be displayed
Explain the symbol and color of a TCAS RA
- An RA is displayed as a solid red square on the traffic display,
- colored arcs are added on the VSI
Purpose of GPWS and The types of alerts it provides
Sink rate Terrain Don't sink Too low gear Too low flaps Minimums Glideslope
The GPWS alerts the crew when any one of the following occurs
SINK RATE, SINK RATE - excessive sink rate
TERRAIN TERRAIN - excessive terrain closure rate
DONT SINK - altitude loss after take off or go around
TOO LOW GEAR, or TOO LOW FLAPS - unsafe altitude while not in the landing configuration
GLIDESLOPE - dissent below glideslope below 1000 feet AGL
MINIMUMS - Decent below decision height
